A confidential space to explore the thoughts, feelings and challenges in your life
Welcome, and thank you for visiting. My name is Carol Yeo and I am a West Berkshire-based counsellor providing both short and long-term online and in-person therapy (in Central Reading) to adults and children from age 11.
Having attended counselling myself I was surprised on how much a difference talking to a friendly stranger could make. This left a lasting impression for me and when I had an opportunity to change careers it made sense to commit to training to be a counsellor myself.
I initially trained in therapeutic counselling for adults but feel that our childhood can have such an impact on us as adults and have gained a Level 5 Certificate in Counselling Young People.
I am a member of the BACP and work within its ethical framework for good practise for counsellors and psychotherapists.
At different stages in our lives, we can encounter issues and concerns that stop us enjoying life as we could or used to. I understand that the first steps towards counselling can seem scary and mind boggling.
As a counsellor I offer a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space where we can work together through what has bought you to counselling and help you gain a better understanding of how and where you find yourself now and give you healthier coping strategies.
I offer integrative counselling which means I draw from various approaches including person-centred and psychodynamic. I recognise that not all people are the same and working integratively allows me to adapt sessions to best meet the needs of the person in front of me.
Counselling takes place in a safe space, where you can meet with someone who will listen with sensitivity and empathy - and without judgement. In the therapy space thoughts and feelings can be expressed freely and in confidence.
Trouble with a relationship; anxiety or panic attacks; mood swings or depression - many people face difficulties in their everyday lives that can be hard to get on top of. Counselling gives us a set of tools we can use to help gain a better understanding of what’s causing these problems - and how you can move towards managing or resolving them.
Working together I can help you gain greater insight into the difficulties you are facing, help you understand why you act or react to them the way you do, and see how you can start to make better, heathier choices moving forward.
People come to me for help with a wide range of issues. Here are a few of the more common difficulties that can be supported through counselling:
Stress PTSD
Depression Low self esteem
Anxiety Self harm
Grief/loss Anger
Trauma Family or school life
I am located in West Berkshire offering online sessions through Microsoft Teams. I recognise the value of this from counselling during covid. It allows flexibility, convenience and having counselling in the comfort of a space you are familiar with. I do now also provide in-person therapy based in central Reading for those preferring face to face.
Sessions last for 50 minutes on the same day of the week, I do offer an element of flexibility in that sessions can be weekly or fortnightly to best meet your needs. I offer short-term, long-term, open-ended or time-limited sessions.
Finding the right counsellor may take time as it is essential you feel comfortable and understood. Our first session will be a little different to subsequent sessions to find out what you hope to get from counselling. Sessions cost from £50, I do offer concessionary rates for students.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about how counselling works, or to arrange an initial free telephone assessment. This enables us to discuss the reasons you are thinking of coming to counselling, whether it could be helpful for you and whether I am the right therapist to help.
You can call me on 07979149980 or if you would prefer to send a message please use the form. I am happy to discuss any queries or questions you may have prior to arranging the first session.
